He was predeceased by: his spouse Waneta Randall; his stepfather Elmer Houchen; and his siblings, Evelyn Sue Watring and Dwight Mertgen. He is survived by: his children, LaVonda (Robert Barnett) of Florence, LaVern Mertgen (Ernie) of Florence and Sonya Mertgen of Florence; his grandchildren, Casey Garber, Brooklyn Wasser (Casey), Colt Wheeler (Nickie Cooper), Madeline Mertgen and Nigel Mertgen (Haley Dickneite); and his great grandchildren, Cadon, Rowan Garber, Boden, Calyn Wasser, Jace Wheeler, Jensen Wheeler, Sophia and Emma Jean Smith. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
