He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruby Hartz, and Clyde Van Vallen Hartz, Sr.; his stepmother Alta; his brothers, George Hartz and Don Mincke; and his pets, Lady Annabelle and Lucy Lovebug.

He is survived by: his wife Veronica; and his sister Ann Quisenberry (Dennis) of Kingwood, TX. He is also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
