He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick A. Hortig and Catherine Quint Hortig. He is survived by: his wife Laura Hortig; his daughters, Tamara Johnson (Daniel) and Kimberly Thurston (John); his granddaughter Katherine Johnson; and his sister Connie Wacker.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
