He is survived by: his mother Catherine Walz (Kopp) of St. Louis, MO; his wife Janice Smith of Fayette, MO; his sister Sara Walz Thomas of St. Louis, MO; his children, Shane Walz (Heather) of St. Louis, MO, William Walz (Erinn) of Sedalia, CO, Nicole Rebuck (Kirk) of Charleston, SC and Anna Hummel-Wettlaufer (Doug) of Kansas City, MO; his stepson Major Andrew Hummel (Andrea) of West Point, NY; and his grandchildren, Brittney, Austin, Dustin, Eric IV, Bode, Jillian, Kinslie, Callan, Hendrix and Sloane Charlie.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's honor can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Engineering Department at Missouri University of Science and Technology and Tour de Force.
