She was predeceased by: her parents, Martin Lewis Powell and Iva Powell (Patterson); her in-laws, Dewey and Pauline Smallen; her sister Connie Jean Smith (Powell); and her siblings-in-law, Grace Powell (Glatt) and Dewey Wayne Smallen.

She is survived by: her husband Paul Smallen (Gene); her children, Christina Lynn Schrautemeier (Tom) of St. Charles and Eric Eugene Smallen of St. Charles; her grandsons, Andrew Thomas Schrautemeier of Farmington and Alex Christopher Schrautemeier of St. Charles; her brother Gale Martin Powell; and her siblings-in-law, Robert M. Smith, Larry Smallen (Katie) and Tracy Smallen. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
