He was predeceased by: his father Bob; his stepmother Helen Cowsert; his mother Velma; his stepfather Roy Stephens; his brother Gerald Cowsert; and his half-brother Alan Stephens.
He is survived by: his wife Betty; his sisters, Alberta Dinsmore of Lee's Summit and Roberta Deitch of Tina; and his children, Gary Cowsert of Austin, Texas, Kathy Richards of Excelsior Springs and Dale Cowsert of Overland Park, Kansas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
