He was predeceased by: his parents, George Ernest and Marguerite Hilda Smith (Nelson); and his siblings, Alfred Prudence, Verda Elaine Hoecherl (Ray), LaVar Virgil Smith (Patty), Marilyn Joyce Paterson (Scott) and Wayne Ernest Smith (Anita).
He is survived by: his close friend Mary Carroll; his sister Betty Ruth Hall (Gratton "Red") of Springville, Utah; and his sister-in-law Rosalie Smith (Lavar). He is also survived by his pet dog, "Whozit"; and other relatives and friends.
Gary's honorary pallbearers will be Don Major, Kenny Major, Chris Paterson, Pat Paterson, Scott Paterson, and Robert Johnson. 'In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to be used to benefit veterans in memory of Mr. Gary Dean Smith.
