It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Vernon C. Mathis (Dexter, Missouri), born in Sikeston, Missouri, who passed away on August 22, 2022, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Leo Erby Mathis and Mary Bessie Myers Mathis; his son John Scott Mathis; his grandson-in-law Mark Curran; his great grandchild Xaiden Starks; and his siblings, Robert Mathis and Betty Feldewerth.

He is survived by : his wife June Faye Lawrence; his sons, David (Cathy Mathis) of Wappapello and Greg (Lisa Mathis) of Dexter, Missouri; his daughter-in-law Dana Mathis of Dexter, Missouri; his grandchildren, Ambre Curran, Eric Lawrence Mathis, Lauren June Starks (Bruce), Aaron Mathis (Brittany), Hannah Hindman (Ethan), Hunter Mathis and Elijah Mathis; his great grandchildren, Zach Curran (Amanda), Jacob Curran, Madalyn Lockhart (Alan), Colton Starks, Camden Starks, Maurice Davis, Taylor Ward, Harper Mathis and Blake Mathis; his nephew Jeff Lawrence (Dianne) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; his great-nieces, Sarah Houston (Kaleb) and Kelsey Gibson (Dane); his niece Emma Gibson; and also Barrett Gibson.
