He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Newell and Francis Gibbs Newell; and his sister Arlene Gibbs. He is survived by: his children, Roger Newell (Susan) of Fresno, Michael Newell (Debbie) of Apex, Paul Smith (Brenda) of Perry, Utah, Cristi Newell of Ventura and Kim Crockett (Davy) of Dexter, Missouri; his grandchildren, Brianne, April Lynn, Kayla Rose, Derek, Ethan, Roselene, Elizabeth, Ariel and Tristan; his great grandchildren, Scarlett, Malachi, Chance Patrick, Harper and Justin; and his close friends, James and Diane Sawyer of Newberry.
Due to his contributions to little league a field was named after him in Arroya Verde Park in Ventura, California.
