He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Allen and Kathryn Marie Ward (VanDeventer); and his daughter Julie Koenig. He is survived by: his wife Linda Kay Thomas; his sons, Herbert Ward III (Michelle) of Kirbyville, David Ward of Branson and Joe Ward (Melissa) of Wentzville, Missouri; and his brother Tommy Ward of Carrollton, Missouri. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
