Rita Gail Black Obituary
On Saturday, January 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, Rita Gail Black passed away at the age of 63. Born on September 14, 1960, in Potosi, to the late Frank Cain and Thelma Lorene (Nash) Saunders. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harlan Brand; stepson, Terry Black and siblings Frank Perry and Terry Lynn.
Beyond her many accomplishments, Rita reveled in simple pleasures. She had a deep-rooted love for the outdoors, finding solace and joy in her vegetable garden. Tending to her plants and later canning the bountiful harvest brought her great satisfaction. Rita's talents extended to the kitchen, where she displayed her culinary prowess with her delicious meals. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of sharing laughter, stories, and unforgettable meals with her.
In quieter moments, Rita found solace in quilting by hand. Each stitch represented her warm and loving spirit, creating cherished heirlooms that will hold her memory close. She let the melodies of Conway Twitty and Johnny Cash wash over her, finding comfort and inspiration through their music.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Douglas Black; four daughters, Karlyn (David) Watkins, Shauna (Dennis) Martin, Tiffany (Nate) Swan, and Kimberly Black (Darin Pearson); nine stepchildren and their families, Jerry W. (Karen) Black, Janice (Kevin Forbes) Salarano, John Hood, Kevin (Brenda) Brand, David Brand, Tim Brand, Becky Cerda, Cindy Byrd and Tammy Nickles; grandchildren, Jonathon, Katelyn and Jacob Watkins, Conlin, Lucy and Ella Martin, Wilson and Justice Kitchell, Vanessa and Isabelle Bone, Avery, Charlotte and Harlan Swan, Eden Gail Pearson; siblings, Billy (Lou) Cain, Adam (Dina) Saunders, Vickie Akers and Rick (JoAnn) Cain; special friends, Bonnie Hedrick, Christine Nash and Priscilla Rasom along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rita will forever be remembered as a compassionate and loving individual. With a generous heart, she actively contributed to numerous charities, expressing her deep care for those in need. Her selflessness and dedication to helping others made a lasting impact on her community, leaving a legacy that will be cherished for years to come.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM with the Celebration of Life Service starting at 6:00 PM with Pastor Adam Sanftner officiating. In this time of profound loss, may we find solace in the memories we shared with Rita, and may her gentle soul rest in eternal peace. Memorials if desired can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
