He was predeceased by: his parents, Woodrow Benson and Mabel Benson (Huff); his siblings, James Wesley Benson, Wayne Benson and Ruthie Brown; and his stepdaughter Deborah Jones.

He is survived by: his wife Darlene Meeker (Moreland); his children, Denton Benson (Janette), Twyla Lentz (Michael) and Angela Benson; his stepdaughters, Jeanette Burnor (Joe) and Pamela Kelsay; and his grandchildren, Clint Ralston, Andrea Benson, Kyle Ralston, Courtney Smith, Brandy Weigel, Tyler Benson, Luke Wendt, Dylan Wendt, Jacqueline Wendt, Michael Lentz and Christopher Lentz. He is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren, ten step great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Burial: Ridgley Cemetery, Donations may be made to Ridgely Cemetery or the First Baptist Church in Holden.
