She was predeceased by: her parents, James Louis Knight, Sr. and Willie Mae Peyton Knight; her son Steven Mark Barnhill; and her siblings, Louis Knight, Jr., Earnest Knight, Robert Knight, Richard Knight, Benny Knight and Louise Tousky.

She is survived by: her husband Charles Shands; her children, James Aaron Barnhill (Rebecca) of Grandin, MO, Mary Jo Saulter (James) of De Soto, MO and Amanda Dawn Courter (Scott) of Dudley, MO; and her brother Thomas Knight (Jeanette) of Brandon, SD. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren.
