He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. Smith-Thorpe and Doris Smith-Thorpe (Mudge); his stepfather Leslie Thorpe; his brother Ronald James Smith; and his sister-in-law Carolyn Marquis.
He is survived by: his wife Elvena Smith; his children, Pamela (Patrick Darmody) of Arnold and James E. (Leann Smith) of Cuba; his granddaughter Sarah Darmody (Tommy Lucchesi); his children, Allison Darmody (Ty Stevenson), Kristen Smith and Nick Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Don (Marilyn Licklider) of St. James, Linda (Jim Turner) of Rolla, Carleen (Kenny Killeen) of Cuba, Linette (Tom Marshall) of Rolla and Annette (Terry Pruitt) of St. James. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Mizell Funeral Home (904 W Washington St, Cuba, MO 65453). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Meramec Hills Cemetery (4243 State Hwy ZZ, Cuba, MO 65453).
