He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Smitty" Smith and Inga Smith (Soyland); his siblings, Debra Clement and Donald Smith; and his brother-in-law Richard "Dick" Hoobler.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Sue Murray; his sons, Steffen Smith (Kim) of Liberty and Dallas Smith (Brenda) of Kearney; his granddaughter Hollie Kosorog (Bobby); his great grandchild Abraham; his grandchildren, Brandon Herring, Hunter Smith and Savannah Smith; and his sister Brenda "Sis" Hoobler. He is also survived by extended family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Cowgill.
