He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Scott Pitts and Ruth Mae Pitts; his parents-in-law, Duell and Perle Rogers; his son Frank Pitts; his siblings, Cecil "Buddy" Pitts (Helen), Stella Clay (Floyd), Pershing Pitts (Owanna), Glen Pitts (Kate), John Pitts (Delores C.), Reba Kordene "Sissy" Moore (Lucian), Walter Pitts (Delores), Bob Pitts (Alberta), James Pitts (Doretta) and Florence Hicks (Tom); and his brother-in-law Lawrence "Larry" Cothran.

He is survived by: his wife Sherry Pitts of Cook Station, MO; his children, Nola Dorton of Cook Station, MO, Dale Pitts (Teri) of Cook Station, MO, Michael Pitts (Paula) of Cook Station, MO, Richard Pitts (Barbara) of Steelville, MO, Brian Pitts (Angie) of Steelville, MO and Melina Vernon (Curtis) of Cook Station, MO; his daughter-in-law Heather Pitts of Eminence, MO; his sister Shirley Cothran of Steelville, MO; and his sister-in-law Kay Housewright (Rob) of Springfield, MO. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials may be given to Canaan Community Church or the Cook Station Community Building.
