He was predeceased by: his parents, Winn Cochran and Jeanne Fenimore Bornhauser. He is survived by: his son Sam Winn Bornhauser, Jr. (Allison); his stepchildren, Jason Wingert (Heather) and Jenifer Wingert (Mike Hester); his grandchildren, Sam Winn III (Trey), Timothy James (TJ), Kathryn Rae Bornhauser (Katy), Reid, Ellis Wingert, Callahan, Corrigan Hester, Charlotte and Emersyn Wingert-Hester; and his sisters, Pam Pugh (Ron), Jane Edwards (Ron), Jone Piontek (Jeff) and Beth Weinsting (Mitch).
