He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Berends and Mabel Berends (Falter); his wife Margaret Berends (Pearson); and his daughter Cynthia Joyce Berends. He is survived by: his brother Jay Berends (Lana); his children, Lorrie Berends and David Berends (Ruth Gaug Berends); his grandchildren, Samantha Young (Michael), Jared Hickam (Jessika), Kristin Smith, Forrest Berends (Brandi), Zachary Berends-Torres (Hannah Paul), Luke Berends (Elyzabeth), Daniel Berends, Joshua Berends and Coltan Berends; and his friend Alma Cowan. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
