He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Surber and Louella Surber (Ginther); his son Dale; his brothers, Donald Surber and Leroy Surber; his brother-in-law Lowell Jackson; his nephews, Cary Surber and John Surber; and his niece Jennifer Hall (Surber).
He is survived by: his wife Lena Trumbo; his son Neil (Mary Ann); his granddaughters, Katelynn Gore (Tyler) and Anna Surber; and his sisters-in-law, Lela Jackson and Betty Surber. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
