He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles S. Ellis and Edna R. Ellis; and his siblings, Jim Ellis (Jan), Suzanne Ellis Buist, Charles S. Ellis Jr. (Marion) and Quintin S. Ellis (Jean).

He is survived by: his wife Dorothy "Dottie" Galloway Ellis; his children, Barbara Ellis, Jack "John" J. Ellis Jr. (Ellen Gomez), Dave Ellis (Pam Bluth), Joe Ellis, Jim Ellis (Olya) and Colleen Ellis Stock (Paul); and his grandchildren, Harvey, Carey, Greg, Michael, Joey, Nicole, Courtney, Liam, Audrey, Emery, Nikita, Maisie and Calder.

Visitation was held on Sunday, December 15th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home (12444 Olive Blvd, Creve Coeur, MO 63141). A funeral Mass was held on Monday, December 16th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Incarnate Word Catholic Church (13416 Olive Blvd, Chesterfield, MO 63017). A burial was held on Monday, December 16th 2024 at 11:30 AM at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery (2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125).
