She was predeceased by: her parents, George Ulysses and Waneta Martin Shelby; her husband James Moore Thurmond; and her siblings, George U. Shelby Jr., Evelyn Shelby Lowrey, Frances Shelby Brewer and Mayme Shelby Dernoncourt.
She is survived by: her children, Margaret Thurmond, Thomas Barton Weiss (Bart) of Tampa, FL, James Moore and Nichole Anderson Thurmond Jr. of Charleston; and her grandchildren, Thomas Barton Weiss II, James Moore Thurmond III and Sarah Shelby Thurmond.
