He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Cowles and Gwendolyn Cowles (McAdoo); and his siblings, Alfred Cowles, Penny Cowles and Glynis Cronin.
He is survived by: his children, Joseph Cowles, Jr. of Sarcoxie, Trevor Hellman of Spokane Valley, Washington, Jessica Gregory (Keith) of Cassville, Alisha Cowles of Cassville and Abigail Hellman of Spokane Valley, Washington; and his sisters, Angie Cronin of Aurora and Sue Baxter of Sarcoxie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
