With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Gene Edward Smith of Caruthersville, Missouri, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 9, 2025 at the age of 75. He was predeceased by: his parents, Pinkey Eugene Smith and Ossie Mae Horner Smith; and his siblings, Junior, Jimmy, Doris and Carolyn.
He is survived by: his wife Gloria Smith; his daughters, Melanie Burkeen (Tim), Connie Sue Stone and Tanja Royston; his sister Shirley Smith; and his grandchildren, Jessica Burks (Brett), John Hayes, Jimmy Burkeen (Maddie), Harlie Rhamy, Chasity, Brandon Head, Stormy Ward, John Royston, Maggie Royston, Hannah Burkeen, Jeremy Burkeen and Timmy Burkeen. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the H. S. Smith Funeral Chapel (808 Ward Ave, Caruthersville, MO 63830). A funeral service was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 at the Maple Cemetery (Caruthersville, MO 63830).
