Robert Hankins wrote a sympathy message

“I was sad to hear about the passing of Leon. We both grew up in the same church where my father was the pastor. Leon was a youth leader when I was a teenager and I will never forget his great teaching and singing. He was one hundred percent sold out to God and his life was spent teaching the word of God. I have no doubt that his eternal reward is great. Our prayers go out to Darlene and the family.”

Adrian Collins wrote a sympathy message

“I met Leon and Bro. Hankins Church in West Columbia in the summer of 1970. I liked his music and his message of Who We are in Christ. I especially loved how he reached our to the poor and needy like R. C. who he brought every Saturday to church and taught the Saturday Black childrens class about Jesus. Many of those kids greww up and became adult members of Bro Hankins church. I'll see you soon Leon we'll do some guitar pickin when I do. Love to your family”

“This is from Patti Cazaurang Warneke: Dear Darlene and family, So saddened to hear of your great loss! What a wonderful, creative, godly leader Leon was! The lyrics of many of his songs taught me so much Word, and I still find myself singing them when they apply! He was a tremendous blessing to me, my family and many in the Body of Christ! Much love and prayer being sent for you all! Psalm 147:3”

Judy Bowman wrote a sympathy message

“Precious Darlene and family... I'm so sorry for your loss. What an influential man of God! He was for so many, and SUCH a huge influence on my foundation in the Word. His faith and teaching were "pure" and powerful, and only eternity will tell of all that was accomplished through him... I pray for great peace and comfort from the Lord and God's sweet presence as you go forward. Blanket them with Your love, Lord! Thanks for going with them and for providing generously all that they need. Love you”
