He was predeceased by: his parents, Arlie Smith and Jennie Smith (Smith); and his brothers, Horace, Troy, Gerald, Lee, Stanley, Truett, Larry and Gary Smith.

He is survived by: his wife Ruth Brantly; his children, Derrick Alan Smith (Tanda) of Cape and Becky Wichern (David) of Jackson; and his grandchildren, Blake Smith (Jacquie), Lexi Gordon (Cooper), Megan Ward (Kaleb), Sarah Wichern and Rachel Babcock (Ryan).
