He was predeceased by: his father Elmer Newton; his son Paul; and his brothers, Marvin, Terry and Billy Joe.

He is survived by: his wife Connie Lynn Austin; his children, Tommy (Darlene) and Crystal; and his sister Verla Mae Dothard. He is also survived by three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Jackson Church of Christ.
