He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Gottfried and Elinor Hermine Wilder Bender; his wife Martha Ellen Stovall; his grandson Clayton Bender Van Wagner; and his siblings, Louise Bender Roth, Edward Martin Bender and Margaret Bender Cruce.
He is survived by: his daughters, Rebecca Van Wagner (John) of Blairsville, GA and Kimberly Foltz (Ron) of Tallahassee, FL. He is also survived by grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Andrew Lutheran Church or the River Heritage Museum.
