He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Ruester and Edna Steinheimer Ruester; his former wife Marie Allen Ruester; his siblings, Ed Ruester (Audrey) and Dorothy Cole (Sam); and his stepdaughter Susan White.

He is survived by: his former wife Bette Fitch; his wife Carolyn Reitzel Little; his daughters, Valerie Kursar (late Sam) and Diana Lasky (Andy); his stepchildren, Jo Beth Bullinger (late Mike), Tim Little (Dion), Gary Turner (Kathy) and Vern Turner (Angela); the mother of his children Bette Ruester; and his siblings-in-law, Tom Allen (Tandra), David Allen (Donna), Helen Cook (late Cloyd), Elouise Forrest, Debbie Freund (late Bob), Marilyn Mayfield (Donald), Roy Allen (Sue) and Martin Allen (late Joletta). He is also survived by many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.
