He was predeceased by: his parents, Oval Eugene (Scab) and Algia Muriel Brown Abernathy; his wife Joan Marie Smothers; his son Jeffery Abernathy; his sister Janeen Gibson; his brothers-in-law, Donald Smothers and Tom Fieser; and his parent-in-law Glodean Stevens Smothers.
He is survived by: his daughters, Amanda Langley (Nathan) of Campbell and Sara Moon (Jeremy) of Campbell; his grandchildren, Jaxson of Campbell, Madalynn Langley of Campbell, Briar of Campbell and Abel Moon of Campbell; his siblings, Larry Abernathy (Sue) of Campbell and Debbie Fieser of Campbell; and his sister-in-law Ginger Mauldin (David) of Jefferson City. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
