It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Byron Purvis Summers of Camdenton, Missouri, born in Downs, Illinois, who passed away on February 16, 2023, at the age of 103, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Summers and Martha Summers (Collier); his wife Rosa; his daughter Darlene Jeffers; and his siblings, William Summers, Theda Gabbert and Dorothy Wilson.

He is survived by: his children, James "Mike" Summers (Barbara) of Parker, Colorado and Redith DeBolt (Wesley) of Haggerstown, Indiana. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

“Barney has been a lifelong friend to my father Norman Allen. They have kept in touch since their meeting during the Korean war when I would say Barney took my dad under his wing. I'm so glad Norm was able to surprise Barney by attending his 100th birthday. They also attended many Army reunions. Although I never met Barney I feel like I know him. Thank you for all you have done for my dad Barney. You will be missed dearly. My condolences to the entire family. Glenda Allen Pope (Norm's daughter)”
