He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Preston Barbay and Dorothy Barbay; and his nephew Joseph William Barbay (Erica). He is survived by: his brothers, Michael (Becky) and Mark (late Pam); his nephews, Mark (Colleen), Matthew Barbay, Michael Thomas Barbay, Alex Barbay, Christopher Barbay and Anthony Barbay; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Joseph, Francesca "Cece", Roman, Paisley and Tucker Barbay.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's memory to the Special Olympics would be greatly appreciated by his family.
