He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Donovan Shankel and Lola Mae Shankel (Neil); his siblings, Ida Mae "Dude" Smith, Irene Lowe and Curtis Shankel; his wife Joann Shankel; his son Todd Shankel; and his grandson Samuel Caldwell.
He is survived by: his children, Douglas Caldwell, Tina Hooks (Caldwell), Troy Shankel, Matthew Shankel, Deana Amicone (Shankel), Jennifer Jaltuch and Jason Jaltuch. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren plus countless nieces and nephews.
