He is survived by: his wife Jill Mitsch; his daughter Dr. Emily Penick (Matthew Gritzmacher) of Southern Pines; his stepdaughter Caroline Ernst (Harold) of St. Louis, MO; his sister Judy Kay McVeigh (Carroll) of Clinton, MO; and his nieces, Kay Lynn Pennell and Susan Weiner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
