He was predeceased by: his parents, Chancey W. Smith and Alta Grace Smith (Gilliland); and his brother-in-law Mark Larkin. He is survived by: his sons, Tim Smith (April) of Kansas City, Travis Smith (Becky) of Parkville and Taran Smith (Katelynn) of St. Louis, Missouri; his grandchildren, Abigail and Matthew Smith; his sister Nancey Larkin of Carlsbad, California; his niece Janeen Sanchez; and his nephew Nash NeJame.
