He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Atkinson and Rosa Atkinson (Samuel); his wives, Ruth Atkinson (Ball) and Susie Atkinson (Steele DePew); his brothers, Cecil and Carl; his half-brother Charles; and his granddaughter Ava Rae Boeckman.

He is survived by: his children, Terry Atkinson of Branson, Robert Atkinson of Nixa, Cynthia Hall of Junction City, Linda Blais (Paul) of Manchester and DJ DePew of Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Amy Boeckman (Nate) of Junction City, Christopher Blais (Crystal) of Manchester, Melanie Hall (Ryan) of Olathe, Dawn Lapietro (Joe) of Manchester, Cheyanne DePew of Colorado, Charlie Jo Ward (Zachary) of Branson, Skylar Williams (Drew) of Nixa and Joziah DePew of Nixa, Missouri; his great grandchildren, Miles, Kaden, Braeden, Brody, Garrett, Bentley, Ariana, Greyson, Declan, Daisy, Austin and Josephine; and his brothers, Clarence Atkinson of Chapman and Clifford Atkinson of Wichita, Kansas.
