He was predeceased by: his parents, Hermann Ries and Anna Clara Schupp Ries; his former wife Betty Allen Ries; and his siblings, Clarence Ries, Harold John Ries, Katherine Wilkins and Martha Brondel.

He is survived by: his wife Rita; his children, Debbie Taylor (James), Dianne Ries, Steve Ries (Diana "Dee") and Cindy Arthur (Neal); his grandchildren, Nick Edelman, Angela David (TC) and Faith Ries; and his great grandchildren, Kaylee and Noah Edelman. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
