He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Adkins and Zelma Adkins; and his son Robert Adkins, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Connie Adkins; and his children, Deborah Martinez and Steven Adkins. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
