He was predeceased by: his brothers, Joe, Bobby and Richard. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis; his children, Stephen, Jeremy and Anita; his grandchildren, Alixandria, Josh, Devyn and Tailor; his son Jeff; his grandchildren, Lauren and Cole; and his sons, Nigel and Ian.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to https://kansascityzoo.org as Gilbert has an adopted Penguin friend at the Kansas City Zoo named after him.
