He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gerling and Bertha Gerling; his brother Jack Gerling; his nephew Greg Gerling; and his cousins, Kyle and Aaron.

He is survived by: his wife Connie Gerling; and his children, Ryan Gerling (Sarah), Michael Gerling (Jen), Paul Bryant (Cassie) and Jill Kovacs (Ryan).

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to SS Peter and Paul Catholic School, St. Joseph Catholic School, or Food for the Poor.
