He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Alfred and Emma Frances Helmich (Galliher); his wife Ida Elizabeth "Libby" Gibson; and his brothers, Alfred Ernest Helmich and Billie Lee Helmich.
He is survived by: his children, Pamela Jean Smith of Columbia, MO and Emil Helmich of Kirksville, MO; his granddaughters, Beth Rickerson (Mike) of Clarence, MO, Sandra Brown (Seth) of Ashland, MO, Laura Goring (Brian) of Liberty, MO and Hayley Magers (Dale) of Jefferson City, MO; his great grandchildren, Colt, Shelby, Tavian Rowan, Gavin, Cora, Renee, Trenton and Trey; his great great grandchildren, Liam and Lawson Rickerson; his sister Dorothy Marylin Kitley of Collinsville, IL; and his sister-in-law Beverly Hemlich of Chelsea, OK. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
