He was predeceased by: his parents, Weldon Cornell and Helen Mina Hermina Staples (Doebelin); his daughter Gwynna Jo White; his siblings, Marilyn Couse and Charles Frederick "Fritz" Staples; his brother-in-law Danny Phillips; and his nephew Eric Phillips.
He is survived by: his wife Ida Jo Phillips; his children, Yvonne McDonough (Billy) of Joplin, MO, Heidi Reitz (Bill) of Bethel, MO, Elizabeth Miles (Jason) of Shelbyville, MO, Susan Miles (Jon) of Bethel, MO and Aaron Staples of Bethel, MO; his children-in-law, Chris White of Bethel, MO and Patricia Staples of Shelbyville, MO; his grandchildren, Megan Milliman, Sarah Wade, Zachary McDonough, Rachael Bichsel, Cole White, Ashton Squiers, Luke Reitz, Brett Ryan, Ciara Reitz, Drew, Nick, Elise Miles, Julia Hall, Brenden Miles, Reece, Lalaine Treasure, Katelyn, Adam and Haylee Staples; his great grandchildren, Annie, Gwynnie Bichsel, Flora Ryan, Ezra Squiers, Keller Hukill, August and Sage McDonough; his sister Marsha Kay Cook (Jon) of Kirksville, MO; and his siblings-in-law, Gary Couse and Janice Phillips of Shelbyville, MO. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
