He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe R. Scales and Pauline Cobb. He is survived by: his former wife Carolyn Kay Whitehead; his wife Carolyn Scales of Bernie, Missouri; his children, Kelly Owens of Jackson, Missouri and Joe Anthony Scales of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Krystal Hobgood, Waylon Owens, Lindsey and Rachel Scales; and his siblings, Annita Hurley of Bernie, Missouri, Bill Bolen and Joyce Davis. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
