He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert T. James II and Carolyn James (Miller); his wife Helga Maria James; and his sisters, Carolyn Chandler, Sarah Patrick, Lillian Johnson, Margaret Hubbard and Thirstina Jackson.
He is survived by: his daughters, Bianca Kirby (Pete), Manuela "Ela" Wiley and Martina Peterson; and his grandchildren, Michael, Laura, Anneliese, Morgan, Martina, Charles and Thomas. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
