He was loved and cherished by many people including: his grandparents, Louis J. Zimmermann, Christine Zimmermann Gump, Lucas and Adel Fink; his parents, Louis A. Zimmermann and Mildred Zimmermann; his wife Carol A. Hampp; and his children, Louis A., Heidi Steinberg (late Heath), Lieutenant Colonel Lydia Oswald (Ron), Jonathan (Thuy Linh), Anne Voss (Mark), Emily Strassner (Bryan) and Anton (Jennifer). He was also cherished by 18 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
