He was predeceased by: his brothers, Jim and Bobby. He is survived by: his wife Mary (Hardie); his children, John, Jr., Kimberly Helbing of Knox City and Chrissy Plenge (Matt) of Kahoka, Missouri; his grandchildren, Adalynn, Delaney Denham, Abby and Aiden Plenge; and his siblings, George Helbing of Richland Center, Wisconsin and Mary Jane Spielvogel of Maplewood, Minnesota..

“Worked with John at Wings of Hope for several years and stretching thru his Commercial Pilot licience. Additionally spent lots of hours on the golf course with him. I often collected for him the numerous balls as he tossed them all over the banks out of the course ditches. Good guy. He will always be missed. Steve Krietemeyer”
