He was predeceased by: his son Paul G. Jacks; his granddaughter Anna; and his brother-in-law Gerald Frank. He is survived by: his children, James Jacks Jr., Tracy Oswald (Terry), Michael Jacks (Christy) and Matthew Jacks; his grandchildren, Monica Jacks, Justin Jacks, Alex Oswald, Adam Oswald, Emma Oswald, Tiernan Jacks, Finnegan Jacks, Jameson Jacks, Murphy Jacks, Nicholas and Jacob Oswald; his sister Mary Piotrowski Frank; his brothers-in-law, John Van Dillen and Charles Piotrowski; and his close friend De Lynn Klosterhoff.
