He was predeceased by: his wife Diana Shaplin; and his parents, Judson T. Shaplin and Phillipa Shaplin. He is survived by: his sons, Judson, Christopher and Benjamin Shaplin; his siblings, John Shaplin and Helen Dechtiar; and his sister-in-law Sherry Harbison.
