He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Matthew and Rachel Ann Cockrum (Strong); his daughter Barbara Cockrum; and his siblings, Francelene, Lucille, Geneva, Troy, Ray, Don and Loren.

He is survived by: his wife Zelma; and his daughters, Sherry Hayes (Bud), Sharolette Pendergrass (Scott) and Susan Cockrum. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
