He was predeceased by: his parents, Mirl Spurgeon and Ruby Spurgeon (Benge); his wife Pearl Rennaker; and his siblings, Sonny, Dick Spurgeon, Margie Jones and JoAnn Brailey.

He is survived by: his children, Jim Spurgeon (Sarah Conant) of Imperial, Joe Spurgeon (Heather) of Festus and Vicki Miller of Arnold; his grandchildren, Lacy, Rachel, Olivia, Curtis, Brenden, Kaleb, Madison and Mackenzie; his sister Sue Jobe (Roger) of Warsaw; his uncle Phil Spurgeon; and his siblings-in-law, Bill Brailey of Keokuk, Jack Rennaker (Cheryl) and Ann Brookhart. He is also survived by Eight great grandchildren.
