He was predeceased by: his grandfather Coach; his parents, Clarence Chapman and Elizabeth Nealy; his wife Doretta Sue Akins; and his brothers, Bruce, Eddie, Ronnie and Joe.
He is survived by: his godsons, Rodney Mullins, Scott Linenbroker and Mike Georges; his children, Celeste (Cory) and Neal; his sister Glenna; and his grandchildren, Tori, Paige, Phoebe, Polly and Nate. He is also survived by grandchildren; many other nieces and nephews, and their children.
